Didn’t you read? Oh, of course you just mouth off and never!  His (elderly) F-i-L lives in Chicago hence the reason to go there in the first place.

But they are planning on going to Europe, not visit Chicago. I was referring to there being a problem on the flight to Chicago that would make them miss their International connection. I don’t think they are going to save much if they spend part of the $150 on a Roundtrip ticket to Chicago from Memphis. In addition, they are now having the extra risks involved with connecting, like missing the connection, flight schedule changes,  or getting the luggage lost.

$150 cheaper per ticket?  You could consider buying a ticket to Chicago (Midway or O Hare) and flying SQ from there.

Is SQ Southwest?  If so they don’t serve here…I know sucks to be us and most flights from here seem to run in the $200 range so…

WN is Southwest which doesn;t fly to Memphis (just nashville in TN) SQ is Singapore AIrlines You might call SQ to see if they can provide a discounted add-on fare on their alliance partner, United.

Would the savings, after paying for a Memphis to Chicago round trip ticket, be worth making a connection for? And… what happens if the plane to Chicago has a problem?

Sorry, forgot the vital info.  We plan to go for about 2 weeks around the end of Sept.  It will be my wife, her father (65) who doesn’t get around as well anymore, and myself.  Anyway, the next closest airports are Nasville and Little Rock ~2-3 hours away, but they are even more expensive than Memphis.  Chicago is a little over $150 cheaper per ticket on Singapore Airlines. My wifes father lives there, but driving 8-9hrs to fly to Europe is too much.

I am looking at a fare on KLM from Memphis to Amsterdam direct for a little over $900.  Is this a typical price for this flight or could a cheaper one be found?  I used orbitz and got this best price so far.  Have never travelled to Europe so am not sure how to compare.  For some reason, this direct flight seems to be cheaper than the connecting flights also.  Thanks.

What time of year are you flying? Memphis is pretty much KLM/NW only so I can’t imagine it’s the cheapest airport in the world to fly from. Are there other semi-major airports nearby that you could also look into? miguel — Hit The Road!
