Well… it’s not much different than the stronghold US has on PIT, or CO on IAH, or DL at CVG and ATL; or AA on SJU … and so on…  It’s a benefit of the hub and spoke system. At any rate, DL actually contributed a bit to NW’s stronghold at Metro when, a few years ago, they sold to them the LGW route DL acquired from the old Pan Am.. -If you recall, both DL and NW bid for the route authority when it was initiatilly up for grabs from PA; DL eventually got it after "promising" to keep the service out of DTW and not transferring it somewhere else, like CVG. While DL acually kept the route for a couple of years, the service benefited tremendously from NW’s feed at this hub airport when they finally acquired it. Just a thought… Rolando   — My opinions only, of course!  To reply, please remove "NO SPAM" from my addess.

Actually, part of the argument was that the service (which was actually CLE-DTW-LGW) would continue to have the CLE connection if DL got it, but if NW got it, they’d naturally dump the CLE tag-end and make it just a DTW-LGW hub flight. Then DL dumped the tag-end, and later sold the route to NW anyway.  Sigh. — Geographic locations in DNS! <URL: http://www.kei.com/homepages/ckd/dns-loc/ >

Don’t know about that, but I flew on a 747-400 last week with that message on it. Some passengers laughed and noticed it, so it must be effective :-)
