Question:
Maybe someone previously mentioned this, but USAir has filed with the DOT to fly (seasonally) Philadelphia – Shannon and Philadelphia – Dublin, effective May 2003. Guess they are optimistic about the future. Also, the new International Terminal at PHL is now scheduled to open about that same time or a little earlier. http://www.newsfeed.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! —–= Over 100,000 Newsgroups – Unlimited Fast Downloads – 19 Servers =—–

They expect to emerge from bankrupcy protection in march 2003. Seems that they are doing better than we had anticipated. And that pension fund keeps its shares in the company.

Latest I read they’re trying to do a "fast-track" out of bankruptcy – so it looks much better than what updates were coming out less than a month ago. Looks like they’re getting the additional employee concessions they’re looking for and plan to fast-track out of chapter 7 and resume normal operations. Hopefully they’ll be one of the first to return to profitability – but I know Delta, CO and NWA, are also in good situations to earn a profit once the economy swings more positive and air travel revenues increase. More or less a wait and see. Will also be interesting to follow JetBlue. They are doing great now, but all their aircraft payments including interest appear to be postponed and their accounts are accruing interest (not sure at what rate, but I believe it’s being componded until they start to pay). I’m afraid once JetBlue starts to pay, they may have problems, but they are managing cash well and if they play their cards right, they’ll be in a position to pay for their planes by filling em’ up and making money. I would personally like to see more JetBlue expansion into the Midwest. Don’t know if it will happen, but I would love to have JetBlue at an airport near me (SDF/CVG/IND). Steve
