Air Travel » Air Travel » Sealed over-the-ear type headphones for air travel?

Question:

Last trip I took a pair of Shure E2’s and they were uncomfortable in the ear after a short time. Looking for larger phones that fit over the ear. sound quality better than the muted E2’s would be nice. does not have to the that last word in fidelity. Was looking at the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro. Not sure these can be powered very well with a small MP3 jukebox type player. Not really interested in powered noise cancelling headphones.

Check out www.bose.com.  I’ve owned a couple of pairs of headphones from them.  Rather expensive, but for sound quality they can’t be beaten.

Agreed. You can easily fall asleep with these on. Kind Regards, Howard

I use the 280 Pro when I travel and I use a basic CD player (Rio Volt) with no problem.  I do have to turn the volumne pretty much all the way up but the sound is quite good and does not distort.  I find the noise isolation to be excellent ont hese..sometimes at home I don’t even hear tnbe phoen ring (and I am not lsitening to head-banging music either..grin) and my wife does not notice the shound even sittng next to me and they are quite comfortable to wear for a couple of hours at a time. If you want a bit more "oomph" you can add a battery driven headphone amplifier…. www.headphone.com has several models..don’t confuse it with headphoneS.com, not the same site..grin   Try ebay for good prices, I got my 280’s brand new for about $80 which beats the $100+  a lot of places seem to want. I’ve picked up a lighter pair of Sennheiser foldable earphones for when I want to travel light but I’ve not tried them yet, they are "over the ear" so I do not know how well they will work on a plane.
