Question:
Anyone know anything about that Hawaiian Air DC-10 that went off the end of the runway in Tahiti on Christmas eve? I saw the plane with the nose wheel in the lagoon at the Papeete airport but the article in the local paper was in French so I couldn’t read the details. So far haven’t seen any news of it anywhere else.

It was removed, thus clearing the obstructed runway, and I believe was returned to HNL for repairs. Believe it is back in service by now.

Here’s the (very) brief Reuters newswire article about it: Hawaiian Jetliner Ends Up with Wheel in Tahiti Lagoon PAPEETE, Tahiti, Dec 24 (Reuters) — A Hawaiian Airlines DC-10 jumbo jet overshot the runway at Tahiti’s Faa’a airport during a driving rainstorm late Saturday, stopping just short of possible disaster with its front wheel mired in a lagoon. Officials said on Sunday that the only injury aboard Hawaiian Flight HA481 from Honolulu to Tahiti was one passenger who hurt his knee. Authorities temporarily cancelled flights into the airport by wide-bodied airliners after the incident because of the presence of the plane on the edge of the lagoon. However, local flights within French Polynesia could continue aboard smaller aircraft. 16:36 12-24-00 =L= – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Anyone know anything about that Hawaiian Air DC-10 that went off the end of the > runway in Tahiti on Christmas eve?
