I think it’s a combination of dying o/s and dying on holiday that makes it seem so much worse.

OK, how many countries have never had a tourist killed? Tourist get killed all over the world, including San Francisco. Yet, I don’t think SFO is hurting for tourism. Michael

Actually, around here (and primarily, in Banff), it’s the bears who seem to have a predilection for German tourists.  Every year they seem to maul of couple of German tourists. While the poor cougars seem to prefer local folks.  And end up being put to death. I support the cougars, BTW .

PBS had a special on the other night about Polar Bears in Churchill, Manitoba. They apparently have a problem with Japanese tourists wandering out of town (some with meat in their pockets) going to see the bears.  They showed a taxi-driver telling one to get back to town.  Ugh! -Erik

Tourists attacked in Sri Lanka Police in Sri Lanka say gunmen have raided a tourist hotel in a southern beach resort, killing a German man and raping a German woman. They said a gang of about ten tied up unarmed guards at the resort near Tangalla two hundred kilometres south of Colombo before robbing the hotel and its guests. The German owner of the hotel was killed as he tried to stop the attackers. Correspondents say the raid comes at the peak tourist season, which provides much-needed foreign currency for Sri Lanka.
