Our vet also told us that we shouldn’t give our cat tranquilisers when we brought her to Canada from England because if it wears off during the flight, it can cause them more stress to be suddenly jolted back into reality than if they gradually grow accustomed to the situation over the course of the journey. I recently traveled from Houston to Amsterdam, Netherlands with my Cocker – I was willing to do pay for a seat for him in the plane – but that was a "no go" <g>.. KLM has a wonderful pets program – they have an excellent reputation in the industry for their care of pets during travel. I don’t know about other airlines but KLM has their pets in a pressurized, heated hold area which is darkened during travel. (According to the agents, this helps them  relax) KLM also double-checks before take-off to ensure the animal is on-board, if you ask them to, and were aware, when I asked, that my dog had already been loaded. A co-worker here in the Netherlands used to work at the KLM Pet Center at Schipol Airport, and told me that she wouldn’t hesitate to send her beloved pet by KLM. They were kind and extremely careful with pets, in her opinion. (Of course, the Dutch in general are fanatically and wonderfully obsessed with good care being given to animals!) Recent ASPCA guidelines suggest that you do NOT tranquilize your pet, by the way – the medication can make it difficult for them to respond to pressure and temperature changes that might occur. Hope this helps, Chana

At our telethon to raise money for the shelter, Northwest raffled off two tickets to Paris.  Their rep. took the opportunity  to mention a new program called, I think, "Pets Plus".  Didn’t get details, but you might look into it.  A friend who works for Northwest has been raising hell with them for years.  May have paid off.

There is no quarantine for animals entering the United States, but the animal must have current rabies shot and health certificate.  Check with the US consulate for complete details. __ Ruth Mays Beautiful Downtown Cinnaminson, NJ I recommend to all rpdb readers that Jerry Howe should be ignored as a crank and waste of time
