Question:
We are moving from California to New York this December and we have 2 dogs. Can anyone give me any air-travel information or advice? I have never flown with a pet before and am not sure what to expect. Their crates are designed for travel, so at least they will be in their ‘dens’. Thanks, John

John- check out the Dogpatch Doghouse ( http://www.dogpatch.org/dogs/ ), where there’s a very useful section on flying with dogs. It’s one of the best dog sites on the Web, BTW.

Does anyone know if there is an airline that will fly from Puerto Plata to Aruba?? Thanks, Kelley
Response:
Kelley, Not many airlines service Puerto Plata that would get you to Aruba an easy way. Best option for departing from Puerto Plata is to take American to San Juan, spend night in San Juan then fly onto Aruba next day, unfortunately there’s no flights that get you into San Juan early enough to avoid spending the night. Now really your best option would be to depart from Santo Domingo, you could fly via San Juan on American or you could also take ALM via Curacao, both would get you there the same day without an overnight enroute. Best of luck, Mike – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Does anyone know if there is an airline that will fly from Puerto Plata to > Aruba?? > Thanks, > Kelley

Do not start from POP, go to SDQ (Santo Domingo). You can get internal flights to Herrera, Santo Domingo’s city airport, and transfer to SDQ or travel by road. Aeropostal flies direct 3 times/week. Otherwise, ALM (change at Curacao) or TWA (San Juan). TW is best – it has availability, eg this is for 31JUL: 3#TW 919 F6 D6 Y9 B9 Q9 K9 V. T. SDQSJU 0745 0843 M80 0 H. This newsgroup is for the discussion of air travel. For a fare quote, you should either post to rec.travel.marketplace, search one of the on-line fare quote websites (http://www.travelocity.com is one) or contact a travel agent. As an aside, the travel dates you propose fall during Easter and Spring Break travel, so low fares will most likely not be available at that time.

As if it isn’t bad enough to worry about getting to the ship on time now we have to put up with idiots who fell compelled to test airport security. Yesterday morning in Baltimore a woman felt the need to test airport security and closed down the concourse that serves Southwest for 3 hours. I hope those who were inconvenienced got to their destinations on time to make their connections. It was reported that the woman was simply released, I think a fine of some sort would be in order for pulling this stunt. Frank

Lets not forget the woman on Friday who was arrested in White Plains for trying to get on with a handgun in her carryon. She says she didn’t realize the gun was in the bag until she arrived there from Syracuse, and didn’t think there would be any reason to take it out since the screener in Syracuse didn’t notice it. I am so against simply releasing any of these people we need strict enforcement of existing laws, or new ones if necessary, to make attempting to bring a weapon through any security checkpoint, for any reason what so ever, against the law.

This morning’s news said that he was eventually released on bond. Later in the day, he returned to the airport to retrieve his bags, and was taken in to custody for questioning again. There is currently no report on whether he is still in custody or has been released. The man is a 27 yr old from Nepal. He gave his address as the same one as the 2 guys who were arrested on the amtrak train just after 9/11. 2 knives were found at the security checkpoint, but the 7 others and the stun gun and a can of mace were found in his carryon at the gate, where he was randomly searched. He had a one way ticket to Omaha, NE and claimed that the knives were for his own safety. Imagine what might have happened if he was NOT chosen for random search???!!! And he just happened to give the same address as the two they arrested on the Amtrak train the day after the attacks. He is still in custody now on federal charges of trying to bring a weapon into an airport, something the FBI I guess didn’t realize was illegal on Saturday when they said they couldn’t charge him on any federal charges because he didn’t get on the airplane with them (good thing). How can we expect any competency from the people at the screening machines making minimum wage, when the FBI apparently doesn’t seem to have much? So what if he had seven knives in his carry on, two on his person, mace and a stun gun? So what if he just happens to give the address of others suspected in the attacks, at least one who is still being held. It’s all a coincidence, he said he forgot he had them, let him go and do a TV interview and leave. Hopefully, in her talk this afternoon, the transportation secretary who is supposed to address this, will offer a heavy dose of common sense into the mix. Heavy Sarcasm below this line How can you blame the security people, as they were trained to watch for under bras and nail clippers, not guns, stun guns, and mace? end of sarcasm
