Prospects are not very good, I am afraid.  US won’t let you pay to upgrade domestically (using the $40 voucher per 800 miles of flight) until you reach Silver level(25k qualifying miles).  Trans-Atlantic upgrades are normally done with the Systemwide coupons they issued to elite members. Miles may be from full fare (Y or B) only.   You could askat check-in and at the gate but they’re likely to upgrade the Chairman’s Preferred (top), Gold Preferred (middle) and Silver Preferred (bottom) members before you.

I’m new at this whole air travel thing, I also have a question for you folks out there that are more knowledgeable about Upgrade voodoo than I am. I am flying from BNA to LGW on Nov. 2 with a stop in PIT to get on the plane to LGW. all of these flights are on US Airways. I don’t really have any FF miles to speak of as this is only my second trip on a plane.  My Question about upgrades is how much do they usually cost if I were to ask at the airport when I checked in or are they so expensive to ask for that I shouldn’t even bother?  I have an M Class and an H Class fare. One is for the flight there and one for the flight home, I can’t remember which fare code goes with which trip. I apprieciate any advice anyone can offer about this or just about upgrades on US Air in general. Thanks for everyone for your time. Gary Andraza
