I’d be curious to hear it. >What’s your point, anyway?
Well, this point came up a while back with regards to the new BA livery… The issue is the difference between "foreign flagged carrier" and "foreign flag carrier". One is registered in a foreign country, the other is an instrument of another government’s foreign policy (Pan Am and TWA were, for years, the US governments "Chosen Instruments"). Does it matter that, say, British Airways is a foreign flag carrier while Britannia Airways isn’t? No. But this is r.t.a, and we *do* so like to pick nits… >Michael Starr >StarrTours >Making Europe Affordable Again
Surely that should be "making *getting to* Europe Affordable Again"? Malc.

Escuse you indeed! Which of the above *IS NOT* a flag carrier as you promised in your original post? Who’s facts are not straight? I thought so. >An apology is in order.

I agree 100% with Helen. rec.travel.air IS NOT the place to be asking questions like "What’s the cheapest fare from Cheesy City to Slimeball Metro. PIA and Royal Jordanian are scheduled foreign flag carriers. Martinair is also scheduled, but is not a flag carrier. If that is the extent of your complaint… Max — All the busy little creatures Chasing out their destinies Living in their pools They soon forget about the sea… Neil Peart, 1980

I would suggest calling a travel agency then, or if you’re interested in a particular airline, call them or consult their web page. This list if for discussion of air travel, not getting specific fare information. -Dan

No it means being informed on HOW to get current fare information. Very few of the participants in the newsgroup know the best fare to anywhere and lack the time and interest to look it up for everyone who can’t (or won’t) do it themselves. And since Dan told the original poster HOW to get fare information he did just what this newsgroup should do – make better informed travel consumers. I assume you are an informed travel consumer. Quick – don’t look it up now because you are an informed consumer remember – what is the best fare between Halifax and Newark? Didn’t thionk so.

Trying to tell other people what goes on in rec.travel.air when you have NO IDEA. rec.travel.air is *not* the place to ask "how do I get from Podunk to Peoria". Instead, you should ask those questions on rec.travel.marketplace. Asking for tips on how to get good fares is another thing, although I believe it’s covered in the FAQ (FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions & their answers. You have read it, Maryanne?). The usual stuff: stay over a Saturday, book far in advance, take advantage of a fare sale, don’t fly in & out of a fortress hub if you can avoid it. Maryanne, I beg of you, please stop telling people "how things are done on rec.travel.air" when you have NO IDEA! –Helen

This newsgroup is for discussion of air travel, not for getting specific fare information. The reason is that any specific fare is not of general interest to readers of this newsgroup; also, there is another newsgroup for that purpose. Although recent threads have been making fun of some of the wackier posts, there is one class of post that is unwelcome above all, and that is the "What is the lowest fare…" posts. Quite frequently they are posted by AOL and WebTV users…
